2015 Quarterly suppers off to a flying start – Q1 supper 24th March 2015

We got our quarterly suppers off to a flying start last week with our Q1 supper held at The Bay Tree, Burford, Oxfordshire. 30 High calibre business owners joined us from both our Oxford & Cheltenham Groups together with their guests. The evening started with arrival drinks in the bar followed by a 2 course supper with coffee. Due to numbers each of our 3 tables had time to introduce themselves to their table rather than the whole room. This gave everyone a little more time to tell us about themselves plus allowed time for everyone else around the table to ask questions and find out more. Once everyone around the table knew each other it was the table captains job to introduce their table to the room.
It was a pleasure to introduce such an interesting array of visitors from an estate agent to a personal security firm. Plus it was great to see a lot of new faces joining us. It was also good to see Andrew Tee ( our Oxford group leader) and Jane Van Velson (our Cheltenham Group Leader) enjoy their first quarterly supper as they ease into taking over their 1845 groups from me.

The food as always was superb and this was followed by our extremely interesting guest speaker Anna James of Spring Chicken.
After a career in senior positions within a number of well know High Street chains, Anna decided to start her own business selling products & services for the older consumer. In the Spring of 2014 Spring Chicken was born, with its mission to make the lives of older people better and build a great business in the process.
Anna told us her story, how her personal situation influenced her business idea, how she identified a gap and in the market and how using her experience in “life stage” retailing she is building a successful e commerce business. She also shared with us her exciting vision for Spring Chicken (watch out for the TV advertising campaign due to start shorthly).

The evening came to an “official” end at 21:30 but guests carried on networking and getting to know each for another 30 minutes or so afterwards. A fab evening!

Cheltenham 1845 Connect Members Supper - 27th June 2013

Adrian Malpass was our wine connoisseur for the evening. Members sampled 2 reds & 2 whites and learnt the art of wine tasting, before enjoying another delicious supper at The Greenway Hotel.

1845 Connect Oxfordshire Supper - 2nd July 2013.

Our first supper at The Old Bank Hotel, Oxford! We had the pleasure of the Red Room, which was just the right size for us.

After arrival drinks in the bar, we sat down for supper. Everyone had an opportunity to introduce themselves and then we heard from Lisa Butler of Adhere Training on the various training courses Adhere offer. 1845 Connect members benefit from FREE access to the training Club for 2 of their employees, so members were keen to hear the substantial list of full day courses available to them and their staff.

After an enjoyable supper, Joe Kennard of Purple Media (Link to speaker profile) gave an after dinner talk on the power of  good video for marketing your business. We saw examples of the good the bad and the ugly. Its amazing what some business owners consider good video marketing! We also saw examples of the very clever use of video to market a business, from professional to quirky!

We welcomed a wide range of business owners to this supper, from the largest Will writing Company in the UK, to a local successful Travel firm, to a family run Office Supplies business.

Looking forward to our next guest supper at The Old Bank on 3rd September.

1845 Connect Q1 Supper – 19th Feb 2013

This was our very first quarterly get together and what a triumph! Members from both our Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire Clubs came together at The Slaughters Country Inn, Lower Slaughter, Gloucestershire.

Key business owners, directors and partners of larger local companies (typically 10 + employees) enjoyed arrival drinks, a tasty supper, an inspirational guest speaker and most of all meeting and getting to know one another.

A strategically thought out table plan ensured those Directors who could build strategic alliances with one another were sat together. Profitable business relationships are already being forged as a result of the evening.

After supper we were educated by Chris Farnsworth Director and Head Shepherd of Raising the Baa. He entertained us with a talk on the similarities of a Shepherd and his dog herding a flock of sheep to that of a manager getting the most out of his/her team. http://www.raisingthebaa.com/

The evening ended at 9:45pm with some guests staying on afterwards to carry on building those new business relationship’s in the bar.

A very successful evening.Looking forward to our Q2 supper on the 21st May. http://www.1845connect.co.uk/quarterly-guest-suppers BOOK NOW to join us.
